Somewhere Over The Rainbow…

I was asked by a colleague at work if I could make her a very special cake for a very special occasion. It was to have a Wizard of Oz theme since that was her favourite movie.  So away I went and after much planning and discussion this was the result:

Toto has a little witches’ hat on, there’s a broomstick on the other side of the yellow brick road and it is of course topped with ruby slippers.

I hope that she loved her cake and that she had a fantastic day.

Easter Bunny’s Chocolate Fantasy Cake

Another cake that I was asked to make by a work colleague; this time to celebrate the fact that lent was over and she could eat both chocolate and cake again. It was a triple-layer devil’s food cake with a thick dark chocolate filling and an indulgent dark chocolate frosting that covered the cake. That was topped off with grated 70% dark chocolate and milk chocolate chunks. Before being finally crowned with a milk chocolate Lindt gold bunny.

Vive le France!

Nick at work ran the Paris marathon this year in order to raise money for an Alzheimer’s charity. Everyone who wanted a slice made a small donation and over £20 was raised from the cake alone.  It is a chocolate chip pound cake with cookies and cream filling. It’s simply decorated with a fondant french flag, number bib and stars.  He finished the race in the blistering heat in under four hours!

Happy 21st!

Simple and Cute

This is the mini-cake that I made for my best friend’s 21st. It’s a lilac chocolate-chip sponge cake on the inside with a chocolate cream cheese icing  & morello cherry jam filling. The message was hand painted onto the fondant top and the matching lilac rose was also made from fondant.

Cthulhu Returns

Mmm, Insanity

The Cthulhu cake returns and this time it’s one slightly bigger cake.  Same as before it is vanilla and chocolate sponge cake with a chocolate and caramel filling.  Cthulhu was completely made of marzipan dyed dark green.

Happy Halloween!

For my halloween cake this year I found a really interesting coffin-shaped cake pan on ebay. I couldn’t resist. Inside it is chocolate and raspberry marbled pound cake. The cake is covered in fondant that I coloured gray then brushed over cocoa powder so that it looked like fallen earth on top.  The lily on top I made by hand from fondant again. The gravestones are actually made of chocolate chip shortbread.

Winnie The Pooh Birthday Cake

This is the cake I made for my mums birthday this year. It took ten hours all in all and the inside is a coffee flavoured buttermilk sponge.  The covering and figures are made entirely from fondant where as the pink icing is a simple glace icing.  The slightly wonky cake and drippy icing is very much intentional since I felt it fit the spirit of the theme.

She was really pleased with it which I was very pleased about.
